Dietetic Services

All patients attending Calvary Rehabilitation Hospital will receive nutrition screening to determine their level of nutrition and any course of action that maybe required optimising your nutrition and maximising the level of participation in rehabilitation activities. You will be given nutritional supplementation if required as determined by the dietitian and other modifications to your diet as needed.  Information and education needed to maintain and improve your nutritional status once discharged will be provided.  

During the course of your admission you may be referred to the dietitian for a variety of conditions and issues that have either arisen during admission or as an underlying concern or condition prior to admission. Patients are given education and information to improve their knowledge and help with strategies to cope once discharged.

Some examples of a referral to the dietitian for individual sessions include but are not restricted to:

  • Diabetes (Type I, Type II and gestational)
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Pulmonary disease
  • Surgical (pre and post) eg gastrectomy, lap gastric banding
  • Gastrointestinal disorders (Crohn’s, IBS, Ulcerative Colitis)
  • Malnutrition
  • Allergies
  • Enteral feeds
  • Coeliac disease
  • Eating disorders
  • Neurological disorders
  • Renal disease

Dietetics services are provided for both the inpatients and day patients. These are delivered in various formats including individual treatment sessions and groups.

Patient education groups include:

  • Cardiac and secondary prevention program
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation program
  • Reconditioning program
